An IBM Cognos environment can be a volatile place. It is a challenging process to see the performance of the infrastructure and the activity within IBM Cognos at the same time. MetaManager™ Performance Monitoring looks to resolve this problem by providing users with automated monitoring on: Cognos Gateway, Dispatcher, and the Active Content Manager, and to be alerted to any change in status, such as a Gateway or Dispatcher failure.  Based upon the status of these areas, MetaManager™ can take several actions.

When taking an action, MetaManager™ can send send alerts via email, call a WebRequest, or execute a custom script.
MetaManager™ gives users a couple of options when taking actions.  You can create an action on any status change, so if something goes bad, you will know about it, and if it gets corrected, you will want to know about it as well.

Validate

The Validation module provides fast insight in to a variety of activity within an IBM Cognos environment including detailed audit information on reports, jobs, user logons, and datasources. This information can be used to troubleshoot acute problems within the environment, or as a health check to make sure everything is functioning as expected.

Dashboard

An IBM Cognos environment can be a volatile place. It is a challenging process to see the performance of the infrastructure and the activity within IBM Cognos at the same time. MetaManager™ Performance Dashboard looks to resolve this problem by providing users with real-time information on: server availability, CPU usage, and memory consumption. In addition to infrastructure information, there is specific Cognos BI information such as: which active users are currently in the environment, running and scheduled tasks, status of the Active Content Manager, and datasource validation. This combination of information gives administrators a truly holistic view in to the health and performance of the IBM Cognos environment.

Services

Managing Cognos services across environments can be a very time consuming process. The Services module leverages MetaManager’s established API to automate and script the management of these services. From a single console, administrators can stop, start, and restart services in a single environment or across multiple environments. In addition the services can be executed in a specific order and wait in the event that some services need to start before others. This eliminates the tedious process of logging-in remotely to multiple servers and managing the services one-by-one.

Tuning

The array of tuning, logging, and environment settings in Cognos Administration can be difficult to manage even for a single dispatcher, let alone managing multiple dispatchers. The Tuning module looks to address this challenge by displaying these settings across all dispatchers simultaneously and in spreadsheet form. This allows administrators to apply settings in bulk to ensure they are consistent across all dispatchers.

Load

It is critical to properly test a Cognos environment when changes have been applied via IBM Cognos Configuration or IBM Cognos Administration. The Load module provides administrators with the ability to simulate user activity in order to see the impact changes to the environment have had on performance.
