Have you heard the news? IBM Cognos 10.2.2 will be the last release with Analysis Studio and Query Studio. While (soon to be) legacy content will continue to work in future versions, there will be no way to maintain or create new content in this form. IBM’s explanation on the topic:
What does IBM expect you to do? Well the first suggestion is to rewrite your reports directly in Workspace Advanced. The second suggestion is to convert your reports to Workspace Advanced by opening each one in the studio and performing a Save As. I sure hope you’re not planning on doing this one at a time! Keep in mind that converting and performing a Save As means that you’re going to have to reapply ownership, descriptions, security, etc. Don’t worry though MetaManager™ has you covered.
We decided to address this problem in MetaManager’s™ Object Editor module, which provides bulk updates to properties and performs common tasks to content store objects. Now on the Report tab we have the option to Convert to Report Studio/Workspace Advanced. We don’t feel comfortable deleting your old content, and you can’t have 2 objects in the same folder with the same name, so we also provided an option about what to call the new content. The first option, Name new report to [name]_converted, will create a copy of the query/analysis with the same name and “_converted” appended. This way you can test out converting the content without changing any of the existing content. Whereas the second option, Rename old report to [name]_depricated will create the new report with the old report’s name and subsequently rename the old report to “_depricated”. This way you still have the old content for archiving and don’t need to rename all of your now converted reports.
In addition to converting the specification the process will also copy Description, Screen Tip, Security Policies, Ownership, Stored Parameters and the schedule if there is one. If you believe there’s more to be converted and would like to see it added to the process, just email us at email@example.com and let us know what you need.
Out with the old… In with the new!
